Resumen
The gross chemical composition, biological quality and true digestibility of different samples of sunflower presscake meals (Helianthus annus) of three Edible Oil Factories of Santiago were determined. Analysis showed that this protein concentrate is a good source of protein, minerals and water-soluble vitamins. Net. Protein Utilization ranged between 43,4 and 56,1% and true digestibility between 70,6 and 79,4%. Amino acid supplementation trials with rats showed that sunflower protein is lisine deficient. A toxicity test was performed by feeding rats of both sexes a diet based on sunflower presscake meal at 20% Protein calories for six months. Histological studies of different organs and tissue showed no signs of pathological damage.
