Introduction: Cerebral venous thrombosis is most often seen in pregnant women especially during the postpartum period due to the procoagulant condition of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Unfortunately the diagnosis is difficult because the headache is the most common symptom and only 40% of cases have focal neurological deficit. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review, evaluating the incidence, clinical course, risk factors, major complications of the disease to assess its impact in pregnant women. The articles were classified by level of evidence and calculated a meta-analytic component. Results: There were a total of 40 articles that met inclusion criteria, were 27.5% were III evidence level and 72.5% were IV evidence level. This disease was more common during the postpartum, and headache is present in 100% of cases. The impact is very high because of the high risk of complications (OR 13.9, 2.8 - 69.3).Statistically significant results. Discussion: The wide variety of signs and symptoms in the clinical presentation of cerebral thrombosis coupled with low frequency and low awareness of this disease in the medical community, make cerebral venous thrombosis to have a low level of clinical suspicion, with a high impact on both maternal morbidity and mortality.
