Alcances y desafíos del proceso de hermanamiento “Sister Cities" desarrollado por la ciudad de Santa Marta en el marco de su proceso de internacionalización: 1978- 2013.

Abstract

The changes in the approaches of international cooperation and the internationalization of cities have actively contributed to territorial development. Sister Cities relationships as an international tool to convey social, political, economical, technical and academic exchange between cities, has been recognized as one of the most commonly used method for international action. In this context, this research will analyze the influence of the internationalization of Santa Marta in the implementation of the Sister Cities agreement with the city of Miami Beach. The above in order to demonstrate that the internationalization process of the city of Santa Marta, from 1989 to the present, has directly influenced the sisterhood relationship between the two cities, disregarding opportunities and benefits. Finally, based on the result of the investigation an alternative solution will be suggested to improve and boost the agreement between the two cities.
