Objective: Describe the functional outcomes, postoperative complications, pain and satisfaction of a group of patients diagnosed with unstable second metatarsophalangeal joint and plantar plate tears, which underwent surgery for reconstruction at the University Hospital of fourth level Fundación Santa Fe de Bogota in the period from January 2010 to December 2015. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study evaluating functional outcomes, pain and satisfaction for a consecutive group of patients with a diagnosis of instability of the second metatarsophalangeal joint were operated by reconstruction of the plantar plate between January 2010 to December 2015 at the University Hospital Fundación Santa Fe de Bogota Results: In 39 patients (40 MTF) was performed the procedure, finding improvement in pain, function and satisfaction. Postoperative pain passage of severe to mild in 80% of patients, 67.5% of patients had positive apprehension test, 85% proper alignment, the postoperative AOFAS scale was 87, and the results were satisfactory in a 94.5%. The main complication with surgery was the residual extension of the operated finger (22.5%). Conclusions: The plantar plate reconstruction in cases of metatarsophalangeal instability has shown satisfactory results; in the present study we found improvement on pain, function, and satisfaction with procedure. However it can be complications as residual finger extension or elevation, stiffness and relapse
