dc.description.abstract | Chronic daily headache is a entity that affects up to 4% of primary episodic headache patients, mainly in young adult population, in active work life, leading to an economical impact and expenses increase linked to productivity losses. The objective of this study is to define the risk factors that lead to chronic daily headache in patients that are being treated in a reference center for neurological pathology in Bogota, Colombia. This is about a cross-section study, 947 medical records that accomplished the proposed study requirements; Prevalency of daily chronic headache in the analyzed population taking into account medical records and international criteria for the daily chronic headache. It was found that the prevalence of chronic headache in the studied population was 9.1%; 80.6% were women, with a mean age of 45.4 years (SD ± 15.4 years); 13.7% had higher education; 89.8% performed certains occupations, and 51.2% had a stable marital union. By adjusting the possible risk factors within a binary logistic regression model; It was found that only psychiatric symptoms (OR = 2.02 CI 95% 1.19-3.43 p = 0.009) and abusive drug use (OR = 7.21 CI 95% 4.34-11.97) Were statistically significant as possible associated risk factors. The prevalence of chronic daily headache is 9.1% and the associated risk factors are psychiatric symptoms, and excessive use of medications; although other factors such as cervical pain, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, sleep disorders and diabetes mellitus have a slightly higher prevalence, which raises the possibility of further prospective studies. | |
