La piratería de Nigeria como una amenaza a la seguridad marítima del Golfo de Guinea (2007-2012). Una aproximación desde el crimen organizado

Abstract

Since 70s piracy became a problem for Nigeria. It eventually acquired characteristics of organized crime and in 2010 became a transnational problem, affecting the gulf Guinea's states. Thus, through a conceptual base, this investigation concluded that the internal factors –such as poverty, weak state and marginalization- and the external ones –as the lack of domestic policies to the waters and the absence of maritime strategies in the región- of piracy, created a dynamic that allowed piracy activity become a maritime security threat, taking Benín and Togo like examples. Following the line of argument, it’s shown that the search for a solution to maritime crime has generated interactions that suggest the early stages of a possible regional security complex.
