Las pretensiones geoestratégicas de Colombia luego de su adhesión al Tratado Antártico en 1989

Abstract

The interest of this research is to analyze the history and development of the Colombian interest in Antarctica, and the relationship of Colombian-Chilean cooperation and geostrategic importance of the white continent, from different concepts: geostrategic, Colombian foreign policy and international cooperation. Given that Antarctica reflects the strategic interests of many countries since the early twentieth century, Colombia cannot ignore their aspirations in the international system and therefore, decided to enter the Antarctic Treaty in 1989, however, it is necessary to define which are the South American country's geostrategic claims in this territory and specify the probability of changing their status in the Antarctic Treaty, that provides material profits unilaterally in resources, diplomatic activity, foreign policy and geographical position.
