Resumen
Background: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) has a diverse incidence depending on the studied population. The available few data concerning Colombia`s epidemiology. Methodology: Description of a Cohort of patients with diagnosis of SCFE that were treated in the Roosevelt Institute from January 2012 to January 2015. We included all the patients with the mentioned diagnosis. Descriptive statistics were used to present Clinical and radiographical characteristics of patients. We explored the association between sample characteristics and the avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVN), we calculated the crude RR and adjusted Mantel- Haenszel RR. Results: The pre surgical Southwick Angle was 46,9° (12°-100°). 16 cases were classified as mild (22,5%), 38 as Moderate (53,5%) y 17 as severe (23,9%). The most affected joint was the right hip (59,1%). 6 of the cases were bilateral (9%). The media of time from the beginning of the symptoms and the surgery was a 132 days (0-1440 days). 46 cases were classified as chronical (> 3 weeks) the rest of the cases were classified as acute (35,2%). RR was 0,06. Conclusion: Characteristics such as weight, height, body mass index (BMI) and associated comorbidities could have a relation with the presentation of SCFE and its outcomes such as AVN. More studies are needed with grater statistical power to stablish if the is a relation between such characteristics and the presentation of this disease so they can by applied in the Colombian population.
