dc.description.abstract | Introduction: During childhood and adolescence there is the peak of bone mass, which influences and enhance the development, the skeletal muscle in this life cycle and the length of life, so it is important to evaluate and influence the predisposing factors to this development as are endogenous (genetic, ethnic, hormonal state) and exogenous (lifestyles, body paper, physical activity and diet). Objective: To evaluate the relationship between body composition, muscular strength, milk consumption frequency milk, eat dairy products and the bone health of children and adolescents from 9 to 17.9 years of age in Bogotá. Materials and methods: Bone health was established by broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA), in terms of body composition the parameters that were taken into account were weight, height, waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI) and index. CC/height. The manual dynamometry and the long jump were taken as indicators of muscular aptitude of upper and lower limbs respectively. The dietary intake was evaluated by a 7-day reminder. Inadequate bone health was established with a cut Z score <= 1.5 SD. Results: After performing the binary logistic regression adjusting the factors of age and stage of Tanner, a positive risk relationship was found between poor bone health and low weight, unhealthy muscle performance measured by manual dynamometry and long jump and a relationship was found negative between the variable of excess weight (obesity) and bone health. Conclusion: An adequate body weight accompanied by good physical fitness influence the bone health of children and adolescents. It is necessary to establish public policies that promote bone health from adequate muscular strength, body composition and healthy eating habits as osteoporosis protection factors in adulthood. | |
