dc.description.abstract | The C-reactive protein is biomarkers of vascular inflammation most studied and validate around the world. In the present study we determined the correlation between CRP and cardiovascular risk stratified by European and Framingham score in patients enrolled from September 2007 until September 2011
Objective: To establish the degree of correlation between CRP levels and the degree of cardiovascular risk
Results: A total (N = 299) women over 18 years, average age 48 years, according to CRP levels (89%) N = 269 had low cardiovascular risk. With risk stratification according to the European level only (0.66%) N = 2 were listed as high cardiovascular risk, the Framingham score (74%) N = 222 were at low risk. Dominate the low cardiovascular risk and PCR data at low risk. We found a positive correlation between CRP levels and cardiovascular risk calculated by the Framingham patients (Pearson correlation 0.323 with statistical significance of 0.01) finally found an inverse correlation between CRP and HDL in the statistically significant sample studied.
Discussion: In this population a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, we make more relevant the usefulness of the method to discriminate Framingham cardiovascular risk compared to the European level. Also in the present study make relevant the correlation of CRP to lipid profile. We finally found an inverse correlation between CRP and HDL in the study sample statistically significant, thus we can conclude therefore potentially useful for diagnosis and alternative cardiovascular risk stratification in our population | |
