Resumen
The present research analyzes the impact of political interests in the formal achievement of female citizenship in Colombia in the mid-20th century. This phenomenon was marked by the influence of the liberal capitalist postulates and the modernity’s discourse. From an historical perspective that includes gender as a variable; it presents empirical evidence about the principal male political interests as a main factor in the approval of the formal entrance of women into the public space and the enlargement of the citizenship as a concept. The text aims to complement some visions that have highlighted electoral interests or feminists’ mobilizations as determinants of the female vote, filling an academic emptiness inside gender literature. Without understating the relevance of the feminists’ struggles, it concludes that diverse moral, electoral, diplomatic and economic interests made possible the approbation of female vote in a particular historical context both national and international, marked by the influential modernity’s discourse.
