Television as a Ritual Passage from the Analogical to the Digital World

Abstract

This article reflects on the changing cultural, social, economic, technological and behavioral characteristic of Latin American and Caribbean at the time of passage from analogue to digital. Examples of these changes, the article deals with the possibilities of social inclusion that bring new technologies, especially digital TV and convergence between different devices such as cellular, radio and cinema, computers with Internet access and Video Game Network. The work includes the reflections of Edgar Morin and the emerging paradigm of Boaventura Santos, thinkers who analyze society and science interrelated and interdependent.
