Occupational asthma is a disease that is increasing in both developed and Third World. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) attributed to asthma 5 to 10% of deaths from respiratory causes 1, in the UK estimated that one in five workers developed the disease through their work2. Occupational asthma is a respiratory disease caused by a specific occupational environment, symptoms usually occur 24 hours after exposure and typically symptoms like coughing, wheezing and dyspnea are significantly reduced on weekends and during vacations. There is asthma aggravated by work, when the employee has previously diagnosed asthma and asthma, classical, where the worker develops the disease when exposed to the irritating substance. This is a growing problem since there are no mechanisms for early diagnosis and timely management of these workers do not have the necessary infrastructure for timely relocation opens nor medical personnel in the diagnosis of this disease. In this review, which analyzed recent studies that found a clear relationship between exposure and development of occupational asthma. We conclude therefore that it is important to make a correct and appropriate diagnosis and initiate appropriate medical management, it is of the most importance to train workers and employers to protect health and prevent the development of this pathology so dramatically.
