Resumen
Problems connected and related to the environment, to society and to the economy, reflect the urban complexity inherent to modernity. It takes effort and criativity to face the conceptual challenges associated to the urban ecossystem in a way that actions oriented to the overcome social and environmental degradation, based on sustainability may be implemented. Some theoretical contributions, as well as scientific conceptions point out to sustainable practices and demonstrate how important to cities sustainable planning and managmet those systemic principles really are. Morin’s complexity and Capra’s inteconnection find support in the practical propositions of Newman and Jennings, along with Register and Roger, who see the city as an ecological sistem, as well as on those from Rueda and Odum, whose propositions try to adapt the city to nature’s patterns. Practical and theoretical values are used in order to develop strategies fit to achieve sustainable development to the city of Criciúma, Santa Catarina, Brasil, which might be used in other municipalities.
