Resumen
ANTECEDENTS. Parkinson"s disease is the second most frequent neurodegenerative disorder, affecting 1%-2% of the people over 60 years old worldwide. There was neither a diagnostic test nor a trust worthy and easy to use clinical score for the diagnosis of this disease. Also, there was not one for the progression and response to treatments. This is why in 1987 the Unified Parkinson s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) was developed, an available instrument in English, but not validated in Spanish to be used in Colombia. OBJECTIVE. To make the cross-cultural adaptation of the Unified Parkinson s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS-MDS) from its original version in English to its Spanish version for Colombia. METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN. Scale validation study. POPULATION. Patients older than 18 years old that fulfill the criteria for the diagnosis of Parkinson s disease according to the Disease Society Brain Bank diagnosis criteria of London, 1992, endorsed by a Movement Disorder Specialist. SAMPLE SIZE. 15 patients with Parkinson s disease for the pilot testing of the UPDRS scale translated from English to Spanish.
