dc.description.abstract | Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the quality of life through the EQ-5D questionnaire (EuroQol) between six and twelve months after the management of intertrochanteric fractures with two accepted methods of treatment (cephalomedular nail and hemiarthroplasty) in a cohort of patients. Methods: We defined a cohort of patients that received techniques of reduction and fixation with supramolecular nail or hemiarthroplasty with bipolar prosthesis for intertrochanteric fractures, evaluating as outcome measurements at a given point of time (between 6 and 12 months postoperative): mortality, analogous visual scale Functional (EQ VAS) and health-related quality of life assessed using the EQ-5D questionnaire (EuroQol) by calculating the EQ5-D index (QALYs) according to the preferences of Dolan et al. Subgroup analysis according to the type of surgery (nail / hemiarthroplasty) and the time of follow-up was performed. Results: The median QALYs after intertrochanteric fracture treatment between 6 and 12 months was 0. 534 (RIQ 1. 03) with a visual analogue functional scale EQVAS of 70/100 (RIQ 30). Patients with nail fixation had better levels of quality of life, however, it is a population less old and less comorbid so it is not comparable with the population of hemiarthroplasties. Conclusions: Quality of life measured in QALYs of this cohort of patients was comparable to that published in the literature. No conclusions can be drawn as to which of the two treatment methods is best in terms of quality of life, considering the methodological limitations of the study. | |
