dc.description.abstract | Introduction: After the introduction of electronic fetal monitoring for assessing fetal wellbeing, it was considered for decades that contributions of carbohydrate to the mother before the realization of the
fetal monitoring influence the report. There are different studies considering that maternal blood sugar levels do not affect the variability of fetal monitoring.
Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted to evaluate the effect of maternal glycemia in the electronic fetal monitoring and compared the maternal glycemia values resulting in fetal monitoring, classified by ACOG categorization. The main outcomes were the hours of fasting, blood glucose levels, variability of fetal monitoring and accelerations.
Results: A total of 60 patients, who were admitted to the obstetrics and gynecology at the University Hospital Méderi were included. There were no statistically significant differences between the results of fetal
monitoring and blood glucose levels. No patient had a fetal monitoring category III (according to ACOG).
Discussion Analytical studies are needed to assess the broader role of glucose in the result in the fetal monitoring, but this study suggests that there is no relationship between maternal glycemia and the outcome of
electronic fetal monitoring in the categorization of the American College of obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG). | |
