The interest of this case study is to research how the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) redirected the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration program (DDR) towards focusing on child soldiers during the post-conflict period. In this sense, the coordination between different agencies and international organizations, UNAMSIL, the government and civil society was important because it enabled the Interim Care Centers (ICCs) to strengthen the demobilization and reintegration process of former child soldiers. Also, it explains the different tools used to perform conflict resolution, focusing on the peacekeeping, peacemaking and peacebuilding mechanisms which helped to create a safe space for child soldiers. Finally, the scope and limit of ICCs regarding reintegration of child soldiers is discussed.
