Resumen
Introduction: Recognition of the social determinants that are part of the development of the elderly in Antioquia, and to what extent these characteristics positively or negatively affect the quality of life.
Objective: To establish the association between quality of life and the social determinants of health in the elderly in the department of Antioquia in 2012.
Methodology: An observational study with a quantitative approach, of an analytical, cross-sectional type, as the target population was 4,248 adults over 60 years of age, Antioquia, 2012. The information was analyzed with the X2 test, the strength of association through Cramer's V and Gamma coefficients, and multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed.
Results: The majority of older adults lived in urban areas, 91.9%; 39.3% were married, followed by 29.6% widowed, and 16.2% were single, the remaining 15% were separated, lived together in a free union or were divorced. It was evidenced an association between smoking and alcohol consumption with the perception that the elderly had about their quality of life and statistical association between quality of life and affiliation to the health system
Discussion: This research allows us to understand the quality of life as a reflection of the individual's needs. The population that is the subject of this study, at that time of life, requires the satisfaction of certain characteristics different from other age groups and at another time in history.
