Endogenous and exogenous determinants of metropolitan industrial location: a nonparametric analysis for the case of the ‘Sabana de Bogotá’

Abstract

The location of economic activities within a specific territory is relevant in the context of regional economic development and planning. Therefore, we conducted the analysis of the “determinants of industrial location” in the immediate area of influence to Bogota, understood as the set of incentives in geography-environmental, economic and regulatory frameworks that make easier the relocation of a portion of value added, of employed persons and the net investment in the municipalities of the capital immediate impact area. Through the research was identified a threshold that covers different metropolitan areas of Cundinamarca’s geography. Were also nominated two properties of the metropolitan industrial location and asked about the endogenous determinants of industrial location. Through fieldwork, were deducted localization determinants exogenous of the industrial firms, that is, those offered by the territory and that they pick up through some kind of externalities. Are also presented the results of the survey location industry for each axis in Bogotá’s grassland and organized into three components: economic activity, location patterns and elements of foresight.
