Resumen
Cataract extraction by phacoemulsification is one of the most performed procedures in ophthalmological practice. However, the refractive result of the surgery does not always fulfill the expectations of the both the patient and surgeon, which is why it is important to observe the surgical results and the different variables that could have influenced them. Objectives: the formula currently used to calculate the power of intraocular lenses used in cataract surgery was evaluated. Materials and Methods: a correlation study was performed, correlating the biometry-predicted refraction with the actual postoperative refraction, analyzing the different groups of patients (patients with myopia, hyperopia and no refractive error) in the ranges of 0.50 D, 0.75 D and 1.00 D. Result: the percentage of patients who present with 0,50D of the expected difference was 57.7% overall, 100% for hyperopia, 53.1% for emmetropic, 56.3% for myopic. In the range of 0,75D for the total was 71.2%, 62.5% for emmetropic, 81.3% for myopic. In the range of 1.00D for the total was 82.7%, 75% for emmetropic and 93.8% for myopic. Conclusions: the SRK / T formula has a good performance in all groups we found results similar with those described in the literature.
