dc.description.abstractThe interest of this monograph is to analyze the economic growth of South Korea and its possibilities to alter the balance in the Asia-Pacific region. From the concepts of hard power and balance of power proposed by Joseph Nye and Ernst Haas, the study examines the major milestones of the national development process and determines in what sense the increase in national hard power allows the country to position itself as a regional power in ascent. Likewise, it evaluates the processes of regional leadership of China and Japan that impede to South Korea substantially alter the balance of power in this region of the world.
