Redefinimos la figura del II marqués de Uztáriz como el más importante maestro de Simón Bolívar, superando el tópico de Simón Rodríguez y Andrés Bello. Recurrimos a fuentes epistolares entre Bolívar y sus tíos en Madrid y Bolívar y su prometida, Teresa Rodríguez, así como bibliografía sobre los personajes y el período; además de documentación del Archivo Histórico Nacional y del Archivo General de Indias.
