Since the initial invitation from the Department of Industry, Science and Tourism (DIST) to participate in the 11th APEC Industrial Science and Technology Working Group (ISTWG) Meeting in Canberra in September 1996, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) has been a regular attendee at these meetings. The presence of ATSE has strengthened the Australian delegation and provided input at a broader level. The range of activities under ISTWG is growing steadily and a number of significant regional programs are well underway. The 13th Meeting was held in ingapore in September/October 1997 and the 14th Meeting was held in Taiwan 8Chinese Taipei in APEC terms). The meeting was preceded by an APEC R&C Leaders' Forum to which Professor Tegart was invited to represent ATSE.
