dc.description  En este artículo explicaré cómo los otomíes de la época novohispana producían manuscritos históricos, al lado de otros grupos lingüísticos del centro de México. Durante el periodo Novohispano temprano, los indígenas del centro de México empleaban el lenguaje pictórico desarrollado durante la época prehispánica, junto con su tradición oral y los textos alfabéticos, para registrar su memoria colectiva. En el periodo Novohispano tardío surgió un nuevo género documental para el registro de la historia indígena, los títulos primordiales, con el propósito adicional de legitimar el poder de los caciques y los derechos colectivos de los pueblos de indios. Las relaciones de Nicolás de San Luis, escritas en el Bajío durante la segunda mitad de la época novohispana, se relacionan con los títulos primordiales por su forma y su contenido. Definiré y describiré someramente este corpus documental, rastreando el impacto que ha tenido en la historiografía regional.es-ES
dc.descriptionIn this article I shall explain how the otomí indians participated in the production of historical manuscripts during the Colonial era, as well as other linguistic communities in central Mexico. During the early Colonial period, the natives of this region used the pictorial language developed during the pre-hispanic era, together with their oral tradition and alphabetic writing, to record their historical memory. In the late Colonial period, a new documental genre arose for registering native history, called títulos primordiales, with the additional purpose of legitimizing the power of the indigenous nobility and the collective rights of the Indian towns. The relaciones de Nicolás de San Luis, written in the Bajío during the latter half of the Colonial era, are related to the títulos primordiales in form and content. I shall define and briefly describe this documental corpus, tracing its impact on regional historiography.en-US
