Resumen
Treatment of gunshot wounds in the maxillofacial region is acomplex subject, especially controversial with respect to treatment time. Current literature supports immediate treatment ratherthan late care, claiming to achieve better results. Wounds are heterogeneous, with characteristics that must be analyzed so as to defi ne treatment according to Kanzanjian and Converse’s principles, but always adapting to specifi c needs. Handling is dependent upon type of weapon, bullet’s disfi guring characteristics, kinetic energy, place of impact as well as patient’ s general health circumstances. The aim of the present research was to conduct a bibliographic review and expose our experience in maxillofacial gunshot wound treatment. We hereby document treatment of three facial gunshot wound patients who sought treatment at the Regional Hospital General Ignacio Zaragoza, Mexico City, Mexico.
