dc.descriptionEl manejo de los Residuos Sólidos Urbanos (RSU) en México es complejo y ha evolucionado a la par de la urbanización, del crecimiento económico y la industrialización. Por estas razones la Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales ha promovido la gestión integral de residuos a través de planes, programas y de un marco regulatorio; sin embargo, aún es necesario continuar instrumentando acciones para alcanzar un manejo sustentable de los residuos. En el presente documento se elaboró una revisión exhaustiva de la gestión y manejo de los RSU en el municipio de Las Margaritas, Chiapas, específicamente su Cabecera Municipal, evaluando su estado actual e identificando los principales problemas relacionados al manejo de los residuos; encontrándose coberturas de recolección muy por debajo de lo reportado por el Instituto Nacional de Ecología y Cambio Climático (81.61% a nivel cabecera y 21.48% a nivel municipal), así como una mala disposición final. Por otro lado, se estima que pudiera existir un posible aprovechamiento de cerca del 70% de los RSU generados, si es que el H. Ayuntamiento municipal impulsa estrategias de concientización, separación de residuos en la fuente, promoción al reciclaje o la reutilización de los materiales segregados.Palabras clave: Manejo de Residuos Sólidos, Municipios de Chiapas, Residuos Sólidos Urbanos. es-ES
dc.descriptionMunicipal Solid Waste (MSW) management in Mexico is complex and it has evolved with urbanization, economic growth and industrialization. For these reasons the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources has promoted integrated waste management through plans, programs and regulatory framework; however, it is still necessary to continue implementing actions to obtain sustainable waste management. In this paper a comprehensive review of the management of municipal solid waste in the municipality of Las Margaritas, Chiapas, was developed for evaluation its current status and identifying the main problems related to waste management. The collection coverage was found well below that reported by the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change (81.61% in Municipal Head & 21.48% at the municipal level) as well as inadequate and inefficient final disposal of MSW. On the other hand, it is estimated that there could be a possible utilization of about 70% of MSW generated, if the Municipal council promotes awareness strategies, source separation of household waste, promotion of recycling or reuse of segregated material.Key Words: Municipal Solid Waste, Municipalities of Chiapas, Solid Waste Management. en-US
