dc.description“On Sunday we have an engagement” is a common phrase between the players of mixtec ball in theafrodescendent communities in Costa Chica, Oaxaca. The engagement consists in going to indigenous towns to play mixtec ball game. The afrodescendant ball players develop different networks with their indigenouspartners. Historically, the interethnic dynamics between afrodescendents and indigenous peoples of thezone has been characterized by different asymmetries, stigmas and prejudices that derive in processes ofexclusion and discrimination in different moments. Through the game of ball, nevertheless, they establishmechanisms of interaction where the exclusion is erased. In this article I will present the type of networksthat are established by playing mixtec ball, and the way in which elements of “otherness” are reinforcedbetween these two sectors of the population.en-US
dc.description“El domingo tenemos compromiso” es una frase común entre los jugadores de pelota mixteca en lascomunidades afrodescendientes de la Costa Chica de Oaxaca. El compromiso consiste en ir a poblacionesindígenas para jugar partidos de pelota mixteca. De esta forma, los jugadores afrodescendientes establecenredes de diversa índole con sus pares indígenas. Históricamente, la dinámica interétnica entre los afrodes-cendientes e indígenas de la zona se ha caracterizado por distintas asimetrías, estigmas y prejuicios quederivan en procesos de exclusión y discriminación en distintos momentos. A través del juego de pelota, noobstante, ellos establecen mecanismos de interacción en donde la exclusión se matiza. En este artículo darécuenta del tipo de redes que se establecen a partir del juego de pelota mixteca y la manera en que se refuerzanelementos de alteridad entre estos dos sectores de la población.es-ES
