dc.descriptionEl artículo realiza un seguimiento de las últimas aportaciones de la historiografía que atiende a la minería novohispana a fines del periodo colonial (1770-1821). El trabajo se centra en cuatro aspectos: el volumen y participación de la minería en la economía novohispana; las distintas propuestas de periodización de dicho sector productivo en el siglo XVIII; la rentabilidad de la industria minera a partir del último tercio del setecientos; y, finalmente, los avances realizados en el conocimiento de dicha actividad económica a lo largo de la guerra de Independencia. Como resultado principal se plantea que la industria minera tardocolonial de Nueva España gozó de tales márgenes de rentabilidad que, a pesar de los problemas acaecidos durante la insurgencia, pudo continuar en funcionamiento durante dicho periodo.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis article carries out an evaluation of the most recent research done in the field of historiography related to mining in New Spain at the end of the colonial period (1770-1821). The paper is centered around four aspects of this issue: the volume and participation of mining in the economy of New Spain; the distinct proposals of periodization of this productive sector in the eighteenth century; the profitability of the mining industry from the last third of the seventeenth century; and, finally, increasing awareness of the importance of this economic activity during the War of Independence. As the main conclusion to the article, the author proposes that the mining industry of the late colonial period of New Spain enjoyed such high levels of profit that, in spite of problems suffered during the insurgency, this industry could keep functioning throughout this period.en-US
