dc.descriptionEl artículo contiene un análisis de cómo apreciaron cosmógrafos, médicos y frailes la naturaleza del hombre (indio, peninsular in­migrado y criollo) del Nuevo Mundo y de Nueva España, a partir de la tradición grecolatina. Llevada a las Indias Nuevas, la idea del hombre -microcosmos sirvió para argumentar que la naturaleza de Nueva España predispone a la degeneración del cuerpo y del alma y que la naturaleza del indio es flemática (fría y húmeda), y lo asemeja a la luna, a la noche, a la inactividad y la feminidad. La natura­leza de los españoles, en cambio, fue descrita como una naturaleza colérica (caliente y seca) que los asemeja a los valores contrarios: al sol, al día, a la actividad y a la masculinidad.es-ES
dc.descriptionThis article contains an analysis of how cosmographers, physicians and friars appreciated the nature of man of the New World and New Spain (Indian, emigrated peninsular and Creole) from the point of view of the Greco-Latin tradition. Taken to the New Indies, the idea of man-microcosms was used to argue that the nature of New Spain predisposes to the degeneration of body and soul, and that the nature of the Indian is phlegmatic (cold and humid), which induces him to have a slow and simple soul, like that of Scythians, and resembles the moon, the night and inactivity and femininity. The nature of the Spaniards, on the other hand, was described as choleric (hot and dry) and in which are mirrored the opposite values: the sun, the day, activity and masculinity.en-US
