Research with the purpose of validating the Insoluble Acid Ash (CIA) method to determine digestibility in balanced feed, comparing it with the Total Recollection (RT) method, carrying out three alternatives of the CIA Method, with the purpose of simplifying procedures, reducing labor and costs of diverse determinations, was carried out in the Procesadora Nacional de Alimentos C.A. of the Quevedo canton. With four PIC genetic pigs, balanced feed "Pigs Development 2", fecal samples obtained from the digestion and with equipment such as analytical balance, stove and muffle, it was investigated from October 2009 to May 2010. In the CIA method, different concentrations of HCl and pre-incineration of the samples were used in the three alternatives, Alternative 1 (Shrivastava and Talapatra -1962), Alternative 2 (Vogtmann-1975), Alternative 3 (J. Van Keulen and Young-1997). The digestibility coefficient obtained by the RT method is 89.45%, and was compared with the CIA Alternative 2 method, using 4N HCl, obtaining a value of 88.20%; the values obtained for validation parameters in the comparison of the two methods were found in accordance with the INEN-ISO/IEC 17025:2000 standard, obtaining an Uncertainty 1.91%, Accuracy 98.60%, Repeatability 1.07%, Detection Limit 0.01186%, Specificity 0.01175%. The Alternative 2 CIA Method reduces the analysis time from 7 to 4 months and the effort in obtaining the sample, since it is taken once a week, without performing a total collection of feces. This method is usable for developing faster and more accurate digestibility determinations.
