É similar ao Zoothamnium, mas o Carchesium é diferenciado pelos zoóides com myonemes descontínuos, permitindo aos indivíduos de cada ramo da colônia se contrair de modo independente. No entanto, a colônia inteira pode contrair-se, simultaneamente. A haste de Carhesium se contrai em uma configuração espiral diferente de Zoothamnium e Pseudocarchesium, cujas contrações das hastes são descritas em forma de zig-zag | |
