Well-established family businesses face significant challenges in terms of their long-term survival, particularly in relation to generational succession planning and the development of business strategies. The need to address both family and societal aspects highlights the importance of formalizing and managing the generational transition, where family protocols play a crucial role. However, its effectiveness depends on the commitment of the shareholders and the proper understanding and application of these protocols. This work proposes to investigate the recommended and non-recommended practices in the construction of family protocols through the experience of experts in the field, using the methodological approach of qualitative research by means of in-depth interviews. The goal is to provide valuable recommendations to guarantee the continuity of the business legacy and the well-being of the families.
