dc.description.abstract | Objective: to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of Muña leaves (Minthostachys mollis) against the E. coli strain ATCC 25922.
Method: a hydroalcoholic extract of Muña was prepared, phytochemical screening tests and evaluation of antibacterial activity were carried out using various antibiotics as a positive control, applying the Kirby Bauer Method. To establish the similarity and difference of the groups, the Tukey test was performed.
Result: the hydroalcoholic extract with Muña leaves presented antibacterial activity against E. coli ATCC 25922, revealing an average inhibition zone of 16.68 mm at 25%, 17.92 mm at 50% and 18.81 mm at 75%, values that when compared with antibiotics using the Tukey test at 95% confidence showed that there is no significant difference with amikacin. Phytochemical screening identified a notable presence of Phenols; moderate presence of tannins, flavonoids and little presence of alkaloids.
Conclusion: the hydroalcoholic extract with Muña leaves (Minthostachys mollis) presents antibacterial activity against the E. coli ATCC 25922 strain in its various concentrations, the majority secondary metabolite being Phenols
