E: "Clinical and endoscopic prognostic factors of mortality in adult patients with acute non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding." OBJECTIVE: To identify clinical and endoscopic prognostic factors of mortality in adult patients with acute non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding at Regional Hospital of Trujillo, 2002-2013. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A study of cases and controls was performed (50 cases and 150 controls). Medical records of patients older than 15 years, hospitalized in the period January 2002- December 2013 were reviewed. The OR of each of the variables studied were calculated. Finally, with the statistically significant variables, a multivariate logistic analysis was performed. RESULTS: It was found that the variables that were statistically significant in both bivariate and multivariate logistic analysis were age (OR: 4,38, p = 0,00129), hypovolemic shock at admission (OR: 2,69, p = 0,04328) and Forrest Classification (OR: 16, 3, p = 0,00001). CONCLUSIONS: Age and hypovolemic shock at admission are predictive clinical factors of mortality in adult patients with acute non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding; and active bleeding and stigmata of recent bleeding as classified by Forrest I and II respectively are predictive endoscopic factors in these patients.
