The effect of ethanolic extract of Tropaeolum majus “mastuerzo” over induced mycosis by Trichophyton mentagrophytes in Rattus norvegicus was evaluated. The experimental model included 21 specimens, to which were induced a fungal infection by a model superficial skin infection ; after this development, were randomly divided into three groups of 7 specimens each; being treated with placebo (control), ointment prepared with the ethanol extract of Tropaeolum majus “mastuerzo” 0.4% and 1% Terbinafine, for 30 consecutive days, respectively. Statistical analysis was conducted, which concluded, that the ethanolic extract of Tropaeolum majus “mastuerzo” has an antifungal effect over induced mycosis by Trichophyton mentagrophytes in Rattus norvegicus (p <0.05) and can be a safe alternative to topical treatment.
