| dc.description | Harryette Mullen is a contemporary African-American poet whose work has been increasingly analyzed and commented upon in American literary circles. Along her poetic career, one can identify the development of a complex relationship with the construction of the (black) female identity. Early in her career such construction involved the affirmation of a safer, if not “truthful” locus that could encompass the meaning of the female existence, which has ultimately come to develop a deconstruction, in her current poetry, of any centrality or essentiality in the search for a an authentic female identity. Translations of her poems will be presented in order to investigate their implication for understanding the fragmented body of the contemporary woman. | |
| dc.description | Harryette Mullen é poetisa afro-americana contemporânea cuja obra tem sido cada vez mais analisada e comentada nos círculos literários norte-americanos. Ao longo de sua trajetória poética, pode-se identificar o desenvolvimento de uma relação complexa com a construção da identidade feminina (negra). Essa construção, no início de sua carreira, acompanha a afirmação de um lugar mais seguro e até mais “verdadeiro” para abarcar o sentido da existência feminina, chegando à desconstrução, em sua poesia atual, de qualquer centralidade ou essencialidade na busca por uma identidade feminina que seria mais autêntica. No ensaio serão apresentadas traduções de seus poemas, com o objetivo de se analisarem as implicações de sua poética para a compreensão do corpo fragmentado da mulher contemporânea. | |
