dc.descriptionPhotoprotection, a barrier or measure to avoid skin problems, is related to the use of sunscreen or protective clothing. The research determined the knowledge about photoprotection in taxi drivers from the city of Riobamba, Ecuador. Based on a bibliographic, descriptive and analytical field study, a survey was applied using Microsoft Forms for Office 365, adapted from Ramos et al. (2016), to 398 taxi drivers – men and women – belonging to various cooperatives, who voluntarily accepted 94% of the socialization of results. 55% were identified between the ages of 20 and 39, with a predominance of the male gender (85%); 83% claimed to have knowledge about photoprotection. However, when evaluating protection habits, only 47% reported using sunscreen, 65% only on sunny days, 61% put it on before exposing themselves to the sun and 40% to avoid sunburn; 86% considered training on photoprotection issues necessary to avoid photoaging.en-US
dc.descriptionIntroducción: la fotoprotección, barrera o medida para evitar problemas en la piel, se relaciona con el uso de protectores solares o prendas protectoras. Objetivos: la investigación determinó los conocimientos sobre fotoprotección en taxistas de la ciudad de Riobamba, Ecuador. Metodología: a partir de un estudio bibliográfico, descriptivo y analítico de campo se aplicó una encuesta mediante Microsoft Forms para Office 365, adaptada de Ramos et al. (2016), a 398 taxistas –hombres y mujeres– pertenecientes a diversas cooperativas, quienes aceptaron de manera voluntaria en un 94 % la socialización de resultados. Resultados: se identificó un 55 % en edades comprendidas entre 20 a 39 años, un predomino del género masculino (85 %); un 83 % afirmó poseer conocimientos sobre fotoprotección. Sin embargo, al evaluar hábitos de protección, solo el 47 % manifestó usar protector solar, el 65 % solo en días soleados, el 61 % se coloca antes de exponerse al sol y el 40 % para evitar quemaduras solares; el 86 % consideró necesaria una capacitación sobre temas de fotoprotección para evitar el fotoenvejecimiento.
