In the early 60´s, the road between San Pedro Sula and Puerto Cortés was built by the Honduran government and between 1994 and 1995 it was turned into a 4 lane way. However, the strong economic growth of the Sula Valley has increased the traffic flow. As a result, in the nearby future, the traffic capacity of the road will be insufficient for the growing demand. Currently, the Government has limitations for investment in road improvement, which is why Public- Private Partnerships in several countries, including Honduras, have proven to be efficient mechanisms to finance infrastructure.Through a pre-feasibility study, this research determined the technical and financial feasibility of implementing a Public Private Partnership project. However, little social viability has been determined due to the refusal of the population to accept the construction of new toll booths in that road section. A socialization process that covers several key sectors is necessary with the local community to finally make a much needed project for the country in order to solve the problems of the road section mentioned above.
