| dc.description | La Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores y Cooperación Internacional es una entidad gubernamental encargada de llevar a cabo todas las providencias para llevar a cabo la Política Exterior de Honduras de forma diligente. La Secretaría tuvo sus inicios el 11 de enero de 1839, pasando a ser una estructura orgánica que contaba con un número de funcionarios no mayor a las 10 personas.
Para el año 1951, la cancillería continuaba creciendo, sumando la Comisión de Estudios Territoriales, que luego fue sustituida, creándose la Comisión de Soberanía y Frontera, Dirección General de Límites y Aguas Internacionales y la Comisión Especial de Demarcación con el fin de estudiar, investigar y defender los Derechos de Honduras.
En la década de los años 70 y 80 se creó la Dirección de Asuntos Centroamericanos, Cooperación Internacional, Refugiados, Derechos Humanos y Promoción Cultura como respuesta a la crisis Centroamericana que se vivió en ese periodo de tiempo. Además, también se dio paso a la creación del Gabinete Asesor que está compuesto por embajadores de carrera con el fin de dar asistencia al canciller en temas de política exterior.
A su vez, la secretaría se involucró de forma más activa en la planificación, coordinación y ejecución de la política exterior y se empeñó en desarrollar las áreas de integración y cumbres, y tratados comerciales. Con esto, se integró la Dirección General de Política Exterior con el fin de estructurar las actividades de las relaciones y la política internacionales para fortalecer la institucionalidad que se dota de instrumentos legales para proporcionar una base sostenible a la política exterior. | |
