dc.coverageHonduras has numerous complaints linked to extractive activities made by foreign corporations. Said activities induce the population’s opposition. Historically, mining projects have caused serious damage to the environment, therefore, commiting violations of human rights. So far, the legal treatment, control and supervision of these businesses has structured around the “ineffective” exercise of the State. However, this also recognizes that foreign mining corporations have leveraged this situation in order to have attractive advantages for their investments. From this critical analysis, the article suggests the creation of a mining law with aspects to ensure the balance of economic growth with sustainable development. Furthermore, the foundation of an independent body that looks out the way of working of the institutions involved in the mining business, to avoid irreparable damage of extractive projects to arriving in the country.
