| dc.description | The natural reproductive cycle of females Astyanax bimacullatus is described with basis on the seasonal variation of gonadosomatic index values as well of the maturaty stages. The latter are defined by macro and microscopical characteristics. Specimens were collected in the Ivai River 23º40' Lat. Sul e 52º07' Long WG) between October, 1979 and November, 1980. During the reproductive cycle, the ovaries show five stages: immature, resting, maturation, spawning and spent. The process of maturation starts in July and the evidence suggests that spawning takes place from November to February and that during the breeding season the eggs are released in successive batches. The first sexual maturation of the females is attained at 78 mm total legth. | |
| dc.description | O ciclo reprodutivo de fêmeas de Astyanax bimaculatus é caracterizado com base na variação mensal dos valores médios do índice gônado-somático e das frequências de ocorrência dos estádios de maturidade, definidos através das características macro e microscópicas dos ovários. Os espécimes foram capturados no rio Ivaí (23º40' Lat. Sul e 52º07' Long WG) de outubro de 1979 a novembro de 1980. Durante o ciclo reprodutivo os ovários apresentam cinco estádios: imaturo, repouso, maturação, reprodução e esgotado. A maturação dos ovários inicia-se em julho e desova ocorre de novembro a fevereiro. Os dados sugerem que a desova seja do tipo parcelada. A primeira maturação sexual das fêmeas ocorre quando atingem 78mm de comprimento total.
