| dc.description | Exactly 90.51% of the population in the Brazilian municipality of Tubarão lives in urban areas. Ever since its foundation, the municipality has suffered and registered numerous floods and inundations. This dissertation attempts to analyze the temporal features of the floods in the municipality of Tubarão, Santa Catarina, Brazil. In order to contribute to the management of floods, this study researches the floods which occurred in the municipality between 1987 and 2014. After all, a historical analysis of inundations and floods combined with structural and non-structural measures might make the management of these floods more effective. Information on flood hazard and vulnerable populations or areas, as well as resilience, is an important defense mechanism. It is in this context that preventive actions can substantially reduce the damage caused by floods. Historical analysis identified that there has been an increase in flood occurrence even with a decrease in the average annual rainfall. | |
| dc.description | O município de Tubarão possui uma população de 90,51% urbana. Desde sua fundação, o município vem sofrendo e também registrando inundações e alagamentos. Procurou-se analisar os aspectos temporais das inundações no município de Tubarão, Santa Catarina. A fim de contribuir na gestão de inundações, o presente trabalho procurou documentos que registraram as inundações neste município no período de 1987 a 2014. Afinal a análise histórica dos alagamentos e inundações combinados com medidas estruturais e medidas não estruturais torna a gestão destes alagamentos e inundações urbanas mais efetivas. O conhecimento do risco de inundação e das vulnerabilidades da população ou de determinada área, bem como da capacidade de resiliência, são importantes mecanismos de defesa. É nesse contexto que ações preventivas podem reduzir substancialmente os prejuízos causados pelas inundações. Como resultados na análise histórica encontrou-se que mesmo com a diminuição da precipitação média anual houve o aumento da ocorrência de inundações e alagamentos. | |
