| dc.description | The present study aims to describe Intervertebral Disc Disease. It is one of the major causes of spinal cord compression and neurological disorders that affects dogs and it is classified into Hansen type I, II, III. The first is described by the acute extrusion of the nucleus pulposus, the second is described by the chronic protrusion of the fibrous ring, and the third classification has been described as an acute and non-compressive extrusion of the nucleus pulposus. Clinical signs vary between acute and chronic. The presumptive diagnosis is based on clinical, physical, neurological and image exams for confirmation, such as simple radiography, myelography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. The treatment can be clinical or surgical, depending on the patient's condition. | |
| dc.description | O presente trabalho tem por objetivo descrever a Doença do Disco Intervertebral. Ela é uma das grandes causas de compressão medular e disfunções neurológicas que acomete cães sendo classificada em Hansen tipo I, II, III. A primeira é descrita pela extrusão aguda do núcleo pulposo, a segunda é descrita pela protrusão crônica do anel fibroso, e a terceira classificação tem sido descrita como uma extrusão aguda e não-compressiva do núcleo pulposo. Os sinais clínicos variam entre agudos e crônicos. O diagnostico presuntivo é embasado nos exames clínicos, físicos, neurológicos e exames de imagem para comprovação, como radiografia simples, mielografía, tomografia computadorizada, e ressonância magnética. O tratamento pode ser clinico ou cirúrgico, dependendo do quadro do paciente. | |
