| dc.description | This dissertation analyses the phenomenon of the fundamentalism present in the Presbyterian Church of Brazil. Because of the powerful influence of the North American missionaries in the conformation of the Brazilian Protestant Churches, it was verified that these churches were afected by the worldview and the theological conceptions proper to the North American protestant fundamentalism. The isolation of the Brazilian Churches from the Protestant European community, on one hand, and the absence of an enduring dialogue with the kernels of theological reflexion of the North American Churches, on the other hand, consequence of an administrative independence with a nationalist/chauvinist character, therefore badly driven, crystalized into a strict and closed hermeneutics on these Churches. The Presbyterian Church of Brazil is a particular kind of Protestantism which adopted these ideas in such a remarkable manner that they survive at the present time, which can be confirmed by the interviews performed with distinguished personalities from the heart of this institution. | |
| dc.description | Esta dissertação tem por objetivo a análise do fenômeno do fundamentalismo presente na Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil. Em função da poderosa influência dos missionários norteamericanos na conformação das igrejas protestantes brasileiras, verificou-se que estas foram marcadas pela visão de mundo e concepções teológicas próprias do recém consolidado fundamentalismo protestante norte-americano. O isolamento das igrejas brasileiras em relação ao mundo protestante europeu, por um lado, e a ausência de diálogo permanente com centros de reflexão teológica das igrejas norte-americanas por outro, fruto de uma independência administrativa de caráter nacionalista/chauvinista, portanto, mal conduzido, cristalizaram nessas igrejas uma postura hermenêutica estreita e fechada. A Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil é um tipo peculiar de protestantismo que adotou essas idéias de forma tão espetacular que elas perduram até os dias de hoje, o que é confirmado pelas entrevistas realizadas com figuras importantes no seio desta instituição. | |
