dc.descriptionProtestantism has throughout history been considered a vanguard movement for freedom and progress. However, since the middle of the 20th century, important works have shown that Protestantism in Brazil has been conceiving an adherent, authoritarian and intolerant mentality. Our research is an incursion into Rubem Alves' production on religiosity, more specifically on Protestantism. It is, therefore, a bibliographic and biographical research. Our hypothesis is that this historical Protestantism, object of Alves' study, lay some of the sociological bases, and as a consequence condition a certain perspective, of Brazilian evangelicals, although today predominantly Pentecostal and peripheral. We consider that in many ways the life of the intellectual is confused with the movement's insertion in Brazil. Our proposal is, in each chapter, to establish these bonds, which at first occur in the family structure itself, later with the multiple and fruitful crises with Protestantism, and finally with the institutional rupture and the successful academic trajectory.
dc.descriptionO Protestantismo é ao longo da história considerado um movimento de vanguarda da liberdade e do progresso. Entretanto, desde a metade do século XX, trabalhos importantes tem demonstrado que o protestantismo no Brasil vem concebendo uma mentalidade adesista, autoritária e intolerante. Nossa pesquisa é uma incursão na produção de Rubem Alves sobre religiosidade, mais especificamente sobre o protestantismo. Trata-se, portanto, de uma pesquisa bibliográfica e biográfica. Nossa hipótese é que esse protestantismo histórico, objeto de estudo de Alves lançam algumas das bases sociológicas, e como consequência condicionam certa perspectiva, dos evangélicos brasileiros, ainda que hoje predominantemente pentecostais e periféricos. Consideramos que de muitas formas a vida do intelectual se confunde com a própria inserção do movimento no Brasil. Nossa proposta é, a cada capítulo, estabelecer esses vínculos, que num primeiro momento se dão na própria estrutura familiar, posteriormente com as múltiplas e fecundas crises com o protestantismo, e por fim com a ruptura institucional e a exitosa trajetória acadêmica.
