dc.descriptionThrough the centuries, contributions from different people to the art of healing havemade up the history of universal medicine. The study of the origins and developmentof medical knowledge drew attention to important contributions made by Braziliansin the medical field. The aim of this study was to highlight the Brazilian contributionto the discovery of the filariasis etiologic agent. Names such as Otto Wucherer,Paterson and Silva Lima, who created and encouraged the model of an investigativemedical school named Bahia Tropical School during the beginning of the Brazilianempire, must be given their due recognition.en-US

O objetivo deste trabalho foi ressaltar contribuições para a descoberta do agente etiológico da filariose bancroftiana. Destacam-se nomes como Otto Wucherer,Paterson e Silva Lima, que, nos primórdios do Brasil Império, criaram um modelo investigativo médico que, posteriormente, ficou conhecido como Escola Tropicalista Baianapt-BR
