| dc.description | Our proposal is to analyze the formation of the Amazon region in association with the formation of the Brazilian Empire, based in two questions: the expansion of the structure of domination by the Court of Rio de Janeiro and the unity of the national territory as one of the goals of this expansion. In this paper we propose to show that the Amazonian space is understood by the Brazilian authorities in two ways: as a space necessary to the unity of the Brazilian territory, given the international interest it attracted, and as a way to expand the national interests. | |
| dc.description | Nossa proposta é analisar a constituição da região amazônica associando-a ao processo formador do Estado imperial brasileiro. Duas questões aparecem como reveladoras dessa relação: a expansão da estrutura de domínio da Corte do Rio de Janeiro e a unidade do território nacional como um dos objetivos desta expansão. Neste texto procuraremos demonstrar que o espaço amazônico é compreendido pelas autoridades brasileiras a partir de uma dupla via de ação, ou seja, ao mesmo tempo em que o governo imperial devia assegurar a unidade do espaço brasileiro - pois estava evidente o interesse internacional sobre a região - este esforço significaria a expansão dos interesses nacionais. | |
