Granuloma venereum seems to be especially common in Brazil. Aragão refers to fifty cases having been treated with tartar emetic, which he recommends in the form of intravenous injections of a] per cent, solution, 10 to 12 cc. being a usual dose, and a course of ten or twelve injections, to be repeated if necessary, is recommended. X-rays should where obtainable be given in addition. The author regards the Donovan bodies as being the true cause of the disease and describes very fully the characteristics of the microbe in the tissues, and he appears to have succeeded in growing it freely on all the usual laboratory media, with characters very like those of Friedlander's bacterium. Inoculations from cultures of this organism were fatal to laboratory animals, but inoculations of granulomatous tissue did not produce the disease. E. G. G. L.
