| dc.description | A recente identificação de células-tronco capazes de se auto-regenerar e de se diferenciar
em um grande número de células especializadas no organismo adulto está
abrindo um novo campo de conhecimento, a medicina regenerativa. Por meio da
aplicação destas células, já é possível induzir a regeneração de um órgão ou tecido
lesado, como, por exemplo, o coração após um infarto do miocárdio. Espera-se
que no futuro os transplantes de órgãos sejam substituídos por auto-transplantes de
células-tronco ou terapias com hormônios celulares que potenciem o reparo tecidual.
A potencial aplicação destas terapias é discutida, assim como questões éticas sobre a
utilização de células-tronco na medicina. | |
| dc.description | The recent identification of pluripotent adult stem cells self-renewal and capable of
differenciating in a variety of cell types is opening a new area of research, the
regenerative medicine. Through the application of stem cells, it is already possible to
repair a damaged tissue or organ such as the heart after an infarct. Scientists hope
that in a near future the organ transplants will be replaced by auto-transplants of
stem cells or therapies using cellular hormones to increase or accelerate the repairment.
The potential use of these therapies is discussed, along with ethical issues about the
use of stem cells in medicine. | |
